Josie is resting comfortably so I thought I'd take a few minutes to bring the blog up-to-date... After surgery Dr. Waner explained to us that most of Josie's incisions are on the inside of her mouth. He said that he worked above her top lip, next to her nose and around her mouth to remove tumor. He placed one sling in her face that lifts her smile up, making her mouth more symetrical. In lifting her smile the sling caused a pretty deep crease where her normal smile line would be. He said that it should get more subtle in time but that he wants her to come back before school so that he can fill in the line and soften the crease. He also said that the muscle around her mouth was deeply infiltrated in the tumor and therefore it has not been fuctioning. He didn't act confident that function would return but wanted to let her heal and see what happens. He warned that at some point we may have to come back to have muscle and nerve implanted so that she has muscle function on the left side of her smile. Overall we are feeling elated with the results of this surgery! She looks amazing and I can't stop watching her. I know the swelling will set in soon so I'm taking in every curve of her new face while I can. We are so thankful for Dr. Waner and his team and for the opportunity to be treated by the best. Her life is being changed and I just want to take a mental picture of it all. We can't thank everyone at home enough for all the love and support! Until tomorrow...good night!
