Hey all, this is Erin. I wanted to post some additional pictures while I have the time this morning. This is another pre-op photo of Josie with her new hat that she received from the nurses before surgery. As some of you may have noticed the story didn't air yesterday, I'm hoping to find out if and when it will air.

This is right after surgery (around 12:30 p.m.) We were warned that there would be significant swelling after but that didn't make it any easier to see. Our hearts broke for her as well as all of her family that was here. She spent most of the afternoon sleeping off the effects of the anesthesia. It was a rough afternoon as she would wake up frustrated and couldn't find any comfort. She was extremely worried anytime Dave or I would get up, she did not want either of us out of her sight, so we waited until she'd drift off to sleep and one of us would sneak away for dinner.
This is in the evening after surgery sometime after 7. Josie started to come around and wanted to look around the room. She spotted her bears and a new balloon.
Later in the evening she started to jabber again and spent a lot of time looking at pictures and videos on our camera. She'd watch some of the video over and over and point to Brooks, we can tell she's missing him. While she's on her pain medicine she feels pretty good, but when it starts to wear off she gets pretty frustrated. She did suck on ice and eat some ice cream and pudding for dinner and has been drinking juice and water through a straw, its amazing how resilient she is!

Josie fell asleep on me last night around 9 and slept until midnight. She woke up in good spirits and played with her balloon and chatted with us. She slept on dad from around 2-7 this morning and again woke up in good spirits. This picture was taken this morning, we are amazed at how much the swelling has gone down already. We were so excited to see her eyes again! She's been a little crabby since she figured out she can't feed herself, but has quickly found new ways to get what she wants. We can't wait for the IV to be taken out, this will probably take away a lot of her frustrations! Dr. Franks is coming in around 10 a.m. and we're hoping we get to go home. Thanks to all of you for your kind words and thoughts, you mean the world to us! Will write more later.

We will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers over the coming days and weeks, just know that if you need something to let us know.

  2. The last picture of Josie showed so much improvement. I am sure she is bouncing back to herself very fast, you are so right, kids are so resilient. I have found the "bouncing back" from ANYTHING at my age is not very speedy!! I was with Laura and boys today and when they brought me home we were wondering if you guys were home down the street. Boys wanted to stop by your house to see, by Laura said this might not be a good time to visit yet. At a later date perhaps, they so love Josie and Brooks, and were so disappointed when we watched the news and she was not on there. I am a little disappointed with them myself!
My prayers are still with you and Josie for a speedy and complete recovery soon.

  4. Josie looks really good. My heart goes out to you guys. The mask seems to fit well & it's great to see her sitting up reading. Hopefully getting her home, & back with her buddy Brooks, will speed up her recovery :)

  5. I'm glad to see all went well and that you're at home now. Andy and I have been thinking about you guys and saying lots of prayers. It's so hard to see little ones all swollen after surgery. I've been there with my nephew.
