It was a beautiful day in NYC today! Temps reached the low 60's; very unseasonable weather but we were able to get out and take in some sites.

Josie is doing very well, she still has the drain tube in but says she isn't in any pain. She hasn't had any pain medicine since the night of surgery, which is just amazing to me. For those that have been curious about the drain tube, it is inserted in her neck behind her ear and has a little pick that runs forward into her cheek, so if she moves in certain directions she can feel the tention of it or if she touches her cheek she can feel it under the skin. Its just irritating to her more than anything. Twice a day I measure the fluid that drains into a little grenade, I also have to milk the tube to make sure it stays clear and is draining (Josie doesn't like this part because if you don't do it just right it causes tention on the tube). The drain tube can't come out until the fluid is less than 5 cc's in a 24 hour period, so far she's at 30 cc's. It looks like we'll be traveling home with it in and it will be removed by our doctor at home. We'll see Dr. Waner one last time before we head home tomorrow but don't expect there to be any concerns.

I worried how Josie would react when we came back for more surgeries but this has all been a really positive experience. Josie has commented a couple of times that she likes her doctor and one of those comments came the morning after surgery. How often does a kid say that? Especially after the surgery she went through. Needless to say, I'm not worried how she'll react about surgery #2 anymore. She's going to be just fine!
