Updates & Pictures

So I had a nice little update typed and ready to post last Saturday after our final visit with Dr. Waner and as I was proofing-reading my last paragraph the screen flickered and I lost the whole darn thing. After killing A-LOT of time trying to figure out how to post pictures and not being successful, that little flicker in the screen just about put me over the edge. So I put it far, far out of my site and went to bed.

We have hit the ground running since we've been home; I've felt like one of those people that spins plates and all I've been trying to do is keep them in the air this week. Since all my plates are spinning I can finally bring you up-to-speed on our last meeting with Dr. Waner. He shared with us that he removed a considerable amount of tissue from her lips and the inside of her cheek. While he thought that she was very swollen Saturday, he said that  her lips were quite thin in the operating room. He wants to see pictures of her at 3 and 6 weeks post-op to see how she is healing and to get an idea of what to expect for the next surgery. He said that essentially all that remains of the tumor (in the cheek) is in the apple of her cheek and is optimistic that he can remove the remainder without leaving scars. He didn't expand on his ideas for this next surgery, but we've learned that ideas change and its all just wait and see. Josie is penciled in for surgery #3 on July 12th. It sounds like at some point down the road we'll be facing a 4th surgery, but like I said...wait and see.

We had a little scare last night. Miss Amelia threw her sippy cup and it hit Josie in her mouth, popping a couple of stitches and reopening a section of her incision. I was instantly sick to my stomach and had a moment of panic but long story short, she is fine. We had an appointment already set up for today to remove her drain tube so Dr. Franks looked everything over and said she looks good. Sigh of relief!

Here is the little culprit,
don't let her cute face fool you:)

The promised pictures...

Before surgery....happy despite the long wait.
World's best patient, young or old.

The time we arrived for surgery....

The time she went in for surgery....

Surgery was complete shortly after 7.

These are photos of the incisions on her lips (taken right after surgery). She also has an incision that runs horizontal into her cheek about 2.5 inches and another that is verticle into her lower lip.

The day after surgery...you can see the swelling is really setting in.
Poor girl, she just wasn't feeling like herself and was ready to leave the hospital.

Two days after surgery, she is feeling more like herself.
This is our little friend Sam who's surgery was the day
before Josie's. He absolutely steals my heart :)
So proud of these two!

These pictures were taken Easter Sunday in Central Park. Very pretty but we were missing home.

4 days after surgery

That sums up surgery #2.
The fun part comes next...
sitting back watching her features appear :)
