I wouldn't consider us the blogging type, but in order to kind of make dedicated site just for Josie to help control the emails, questions and kind thoughts we thought that this might be best just to centralize one site to explain Josie's condition and update her progress.
Since birth Josie has had a fatty tumor in her left cheek. The technical term is facial infused lipomitosis. This is an extremely rare condition; however, she is completely normal in all other aspects of life with a full load of sassiness. This coming Friday, January 30th she will under-go surgery. Our doctors feel that it is best to be aggressive with this type of condition and try to control any further growth. The upcoming surgery will basically be liposuction on the left cheek. We are to be at the hospital at 6 AM. Surgery will take anywhere from 2-4 hours and they will keep Josie overnight for observation and she should be released the following day. In the months following surgery, Josie will be wearing a mask identical to those that burn patients wear. The mask will be used as a type of compression therapy, in hopes that it will help stop the growth of the tumor.
That being said, Erin and I are so very lucky. Josie is everything you could ask for in a soon-to-be 18-month old. She loves to sing, dance, play with her brother and talk in her unknown gibberish language. Josie is surrounded by a loving extended family and is supported by so many friends. Erin and I have been amazed by all the kind words, prayers and emails. Because we come from such a small community Josie has a lot of extended aunts, uncles and grandparents and we couldn't be more thankful for each and everyone. We ask that you continue to keep Josie in your thoughts and prayers.
P.S. Erin is probably better at this than I am so she can fill you in better on the happenings than I probably can. Oh and Josie is a daddy's girl, so don't let Erin tell you any different.

God be with you!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck Josie! We would love to get together after things settle down. Unfortunately we'll be in AZ when Dylans Smile is holding the March social :( We will continue to watch the blog for updates. Our little munchkins just might show a breakthrough that will go down in the books...we can only hope & pray!
