Home at last!

We were released from the hospital a little before noon today. While we waited for Dr. Franks to come discharge us Josie played in the play room and explored. Dave chased behind her with her IV stand, pretty comical to watch.

As soon as we got home Dave and I couldn't wait to peel off the mask and see her pretty little face. She looks so good for just being a day out from surgery. Its going to take some time to really see all the results of the surgery but we are already seeing such a difference. She has a little incision by her nose, ear and about an inch-long incision in her hairline. Her mask was so smelly from slobber, food and medicine; I couldn't wait to wash it. I think it will be a daily battle to keep it clean. She can take it off to sleep, eat and bathe but when she is wearing it she drools continuously. The good news with the mask is that she doesn't pull at it or get too terribly upset when we put it on. I was sure this was going to be our biggest battle but she seems to be adjusting well.

Brooks is still staying with Grandma & Papa, so Josie seems to be a little bored without him. She just sort of walks around and acts like she doesn't know what to do with herself. Should be fun to see their reunion tomorrow.

Well, we are both breathing a sigh of relief tonight to have this all behind us. We're looking forward to getting her back to normal. We'll have a follow-up appointment in 2 weeks, but otherwise Dr. Franks thought she was doing really well. We'll try to post updated pictures of her as she progresses. We still haven't heard if and when Channel 13 will air the story on the pediatric hats, but will post if we hear that as well. I'm going to sign-off and Dave and I are going to get a good nights sleep! Thank you for all of your comments, we haven't figured out how to respond to them but appreciate them none-the-less!

  1. She looks fantastic! I'm glad to see that her left eye is open, Sam's was swollen shut for almost a week after surgery. I can see a huge difference in the size of her cheek & knowing that there is still a lot of swelling to go down is also very exciting!!!

  2. Hey my little sweetheart. You look terrific. I am glad you could take your mask off for awhile. I know brother Brooks can't wait to see you. I may stop by your house Monday night after school if you are feeling up to seeing Aunt Carie. Love you lots and lots!!!
Dave and Erin-thanks so much for setting up this blog, it has been awesome getting updated. Take care you two. I know you probably feel like you have been run over by a mack truck. Please call if you need anything--and if you need a dinner out on Friday--I would love to babysit. See how this week goes and we will chat.

  3. Hi guys- glad Josie's home, and that you can finally relax a little. When it comes to responding to all the comments, I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone knows that you're thankful for the support, and also that you're very busy- you do have two beautiful one year olds to keep up with, and most of us have enough difficulty keeping up with one at a time! Just take the time to do what you need to do, hug your children, and don't worry about responding to people individually!
